Far better to stick with stock shims and stock shim sizes.
They are not that expensive. Check with your local Suzuki shop, see if they might have some sort of exchange policy. Some don't, others might charge a couple of bucks.
The "GSR Shim Club" was mentioned. I know virtually nothing about them, except many members are happy with the arrangement.
Next up the list is to just buy new shims from Z1 Enterprises at just over $5 a piece. You will have them in just a few days and can keep your old ones for future use.

had the engine running with shims down to 1.60 mm, but logically,
could not find replacement shims when doing my first valve adjustment.
I was pointed out by other members, correctly, that as from a certain width (less than 1.85 mm I experienced) the shim is 'falling' into the bucket and the ridges of that bucket become a dangerous obstacle for the cams...
so I had the little nib from the inside of the bucket drilled out (0.6 to 0.8 mm removed) and are now back in the normal 2.40 to 2.75 mm shims (that I ordered from Z1)

Ray's one of those machinists that can't seem to quit - he bought his own machine, just made me a 1.951978 GS 1000 (since new)
