A stated, in most cases, an impact driver is the only way to get these loose. You'll use it for more than that, so, investing in one is a good choice.

I should get me one of them... all I got is a 1/2" drive impact gun for taking tires off the truck.

I hate to say "we told you so", so I won't.

I have that one and it's excellent. The key is the bits. The bits in that set are so go that I don't usually have to even resort to impact. I've tried it on screws that were so mangled I was 100% sure I'd have to dremel them into flat-heads and it still grabbed them no problems.

I think anybody who says "I hate to say I told you so" is not telling the truth.

Oh, I'll tell you, alright, I just don't like having to do it.

I'm deep in the throes of my first GS valve adjustment as well. It's going smoothly so far and with all the advice and links here I trust that it'll be done in no time. Thanks for taking the time to put this stuff up.

For me, when my screws get all mangled, as in just a hole in the head, I used the grabit brand extractors by alden corp.
Drill tip on one side, extractor on the other. Be sure to use the right size extractor and as with any extractor, be sure it is centered(or it may snap off). But since you got em out, no need for em. But just for future reference, i love em.

I come bearing updates. I ruined 2 of the carb bodies from the 850's original carbs so i sold what was salvageable and went back to the garage and I put the carburetors from the 1100 onto the 850 and the bike is running like a champion. I had to turn a couple of the boots around to make the boots line up with the carbs. Anywho the bike is running but for some reason the 4th cylinder exhaust head isnt getting hot. the other three are. however the coil is fine and the plug sparks fine but for some reason it seems as though its not working. any suggestions?
