Its a simple matter. Any driveline shop can cut and balance a new driveshaft. The driveshaft housing is simple to extend as well. Just a matter of cutting DOM of the same sixe, fit and weld in place.

if he wants an extended swingarm then he should have one
I think everyone should stop bashing him for wanting to put an extended swing arm on his 850. Yes the bikes are vintage but not everyone has the same taste and want to keep things classic. I love my 82 gs850 but i don't plan on keeping everything on it with a vintage look. In the last forums a guy asked how to change the shaft drive and the response was to change the bottom end to a gs750 that bolts onto the 850 top. This would allow u to add another swingarm, chain drive and a different rear tire. (An extended swingarm if u like) So if thats what he wants to do then don't bash him for being unique.

It can be done. I found this on some street fighter forum, not really sure exactly what site it was but the guy had done a nice job of totally re-vamping the looks of an 850G.
He also found a way to weld up the splines / pumpkin assembly to the more modern and wider gsxr wheels. I think the end result is a very cool GS.
EDIT: It looks like it would handle pretty decent too. Modern sticky tires and updated suspension. I think this type of swinger extension would work well for your bike, as opposed to the draggers and posers who extend it by 6+ inches.Last edited by Guest; 08-16-2011, 12:54 PM.

This is kind of what I was thinking.. looks great on an 850 I think.

Back in the 80's I bought a xs1100 built up with a turbo. It was a shaft drive with about a 4 inch longer tube and shaft. It was made by Strange engineering and was a blast to ride. Of course it ran 9.20's at the drag strip so that made a lot of fun. I think the cost of the tube and shaft was about $1000.00 back then. I still have it hanging on the wall.
