Perhaps with a car engine, the higher torque down numbers allow for this, but these are a little less tollerant.

Say Mike, totally off subject, what tire size did you end up goin with?
Haven't ordered yet, and still haven't decided. I'm being a bit indecisive here, but as it just snowed 6" on us last week, I suppose I have that luxury.

Can't find any solid info either way as to whether or not there's any real benefit to jumping up sizes with regard to either braking or cornering performance. I just want the size that'll offer me the best performance I can get, you know?

Either sticking with the Metzler Lastertecs or going with Avon Roadriders. At least I figured out that much ...

Steering will feel quicker with the Avons. The metzlers are a pretty flat faced tire on the front. I had a pair of CS that were modeled afterthe lazertechs and it steered like a tractor comparing it to the Avons. Just my .02

Avons it is. Might as well try something new.

If you sanded the mating surfaces, the only thing you can do is have the surfaces machined flat or replace everything that was sanded. What did you use the 3m disc on?

If I can't hang a nail on it or scape it off with a razor I leave it alone. That's why you're putting a gasket on there, right?

Well i think i fixed it, id love to ride and figure it out but here in IL its 32 and windy as hell. So no riding for me.

I did pull it all apart..again... I did in fact bring home a straight edge borrowed from another tech at my workplace. Checked the deck of the bores and did a "flashlight test". basically placed the straight edge and shined a light behind it, to visually see any gaps, passed with flying colors.

Then i discovered my leak culprit! I had a miniscule piece of old gasket at that corner, on the inside corner of the #1 bore, pretty much inboard to the placement of the egg shaped o-ring.

used a razor blade and some trans fluid to soften the stubborn gasket and scraped it off, then used 600 grit and trans fluid to scuff it clean, put a super thin layer of form-in-place-gasket(toyota branded black sealant used for oil pans, water pumps, cam plugs, anything that seals anything) and reassembled.

Torqued, heat cycled, torqued again, check for leaks.

              NONE!

              Boom. lets go riding. hah

im just glad it looks like a motorcycle again.

For about 3 months it was scattered over 3 rooms in my house, and half my garage!

Who made the seat? It does look like a bike.
So, the leak was a small over-looked piece of gasket eh?
Teaches us all to double and triple check everything.

Glad to hear you figured it out albeit, the hard way.

Seat was my doings. i hate this seat, its ugly and ruins the bikes lines. but its a stock king-queen "L" seat, that i trimmed down...and by trimmed down i mean its two beach towels stuffed under the cover....

Im watching a gs750 flat seat on ebay right now. so hopefully that will be on here soon.

Why not get an L seat pan and have the seat made at a shop?
It should be a lot easier to make it fit.

Is Shawn still in service there? Cause that's who I bought the bike from. I don't know his last name.
