    Transmission undercutting question

    Hi!

I have recently purchased a GS1150 undercut transmission.

After receiving it, I realized that all drive gears with square dogs (item 1 in the diagram: counter shaft assembly) have been undercut on both sides (dovetail shape). IMHO these look very good and seem to match up perfectly ... but this is the first time that I examine one of these.

When I looked at the driven gears (drive-shaft # 21 with sprocket on the end), I realized that nothing seems to be modified on the round slots and protrusion on the gears.

    Question:
When undercutting a transmission, are only the dogs on the drive gears modified, or should something have been done to the others also?

The 1150 input shaft gears are undercut from the factory. First gear #22 slots and the mating dogs are not cut on an undercut transmission. Sounds to me like you bought a "stock" not undercut transmission.

I was not aware of that. From memory (it's in a box in the garage), items 5, 4, 7 and 3 seem to have been cut.

Makes sense even to a newbie like me. What about 2nd to 5th driven gears (25, 28, 34 and 35)? Would any of these have been cut?

Sounds to me like you bought a "stock" not undercut transmission.
      I hope not ...

      Thanks!

Yes it is a stock transmission (no aftermarket cuts). It is now on its way back to the seller.
        Thanks!
