    That's OK, if it is, indeed, a '78, it won't be an 850, either. 850 was introduced in '79.

    The 850 and 1000G (not the E) share an airbox in '80 and '80. The 850 and 1100G shared an airbox in '82 and '83. I know for a fact that the '82/'83 airbox will fit on an '81G, but the chrome covers on the ends do not match up with the lines of the side covers.
