81 1100 starter idle gear

I have two different styles of starter idle gears for a 81 1100.
does any one know if they are interchangeable in the engine and why there are two different styles

never mind the gasket is too thin and pinching the starter idle gear.

Do you have the two washers on the dowel pin engaging the starter motor gear?

My 1150 wouldn't turn over either, as I was using these two washers, referring to an 1100 manual.

The 1150 doesn't use these washers and caused the binding. I use to have an 80 1100ET and assumed these washers belonged on the 1150. Wrong. Sounds like you might have the opposite problem.

Check the three bolts inside the rotor for snugness.
