    Parts match up?

would parts off of a 79 550 fit a 79 850? like the regulator, stator, or coil packs?

I believe they are interchangeable, but you might have to change the connectors.

does anyone know if there is like a list to find out what parts are interchangable between year and models of the gs? that would deff make part hunting alot easier and cheaper ha

Not sure what there would be that is "like a list" other than a list, but there used to be a couple of vendors on the list that showed a list of bikes that a part was used on, but I just checked them and that feature has been removed.

About what specific parts might you be wondering?

well i know a guy who has a bunch of parts off of a 550, but mines an 850 same year. something is wrong with my charging system and it would be awesome to find parts that i could use if i could find them cheaper

i'm pretty sure the stator will work and as far as a r/r get one from Duaneage here. I'll check my suzuki cross reference manual to confirm but I will not be able to check it until monday.

The reason why I say i am pretty sure is because I just checked about 3 days ago to see what other bikes have the same stator as mine. And we both have the same bike.

              Hi,

In the alpha-sports.com parts fiche, grab a part number (right-click and 'copy'), click above where it says "Special Tools" and in the pull-down menu click on "PartsFinder: All". 'Paste' your part number in there and click the 'Submit' button. You will be presented with something like a list of other bikes that part fits.

This tip is on my little website, along with a lot of others. Check it out.

              Thank you for your indulgence,

              BassCliff

wow cliff amazing, thank you so much. So these are the absolute limits of what you can switch on bikes? so a turn signal switch from a 550 would indeed not work on my 850?

This is the part number for the GS550 '79 model and the other bikes that have the same stator.

                    I do not see a GS850 there!!!!!!!!

ok now im confused, cause i looked up that part number for that list that you just gave me on that site that cliff just gave me and only like 5 bikes came up on that site. So the site only matches to a few bikes?

That's because you did not include the superceded parts as well. Often there will be three part numbers for the same part, because two of them have been superceded by another part number. When you have a cross reference program it covers all part numbers.

                          Hi,

Things like turn signals are fairly ubiquitous. About the only difference with turn signals would be if they are single or dual filament.
