is there anything to make gaskets not stick?

Ok, so I want to have the option to take something off without destroying the gasket. A friend at school said to spray some wd-40 on the surfaces of the mating faces and both sides of the gasket.

I was wondering if y'all had any opinions or experience with stuff like this..

Scratch that, I found some info in the 'tips and tricks' forum... Is there a way to delete a thread? lol

Depends on what gasket, I only assemble with a light smear of clean engine oil, light duly grease or dry.
No gunk and goop whizz bang formulations for me.
Never have a problem when stripping later.

All the old timers put airplane engines together with Fuel Lube. This is about the same stuff....

Do you have to show your AOPA number or is it available to mere mortals?

Nah Steve, you can just waltz in and buy it, if you close enough, or just order it online, aircraft spruce sells to any of the unwashed masses.

Use a thin coat of wheel bearing grease on gaskets and o-rings, advice from an old

Please don't quote me on this but some of the OE gaskets I've seen have a shiny shellac looking coating on them, which (I think) is sort of a heat activated sealer of some sort. I've taken to install all OE gaskets dry, other than the valve cover, and trust Suzuki knew what they are doing.

I'll second that. Its the same information I got from my pro wrench and I've been doing it for years. I use the technique on all paper gaskets, especially my carb bowl gaskets. Never had a problem with leaking or sticking.

                  Good luck with your projects.

                  Cheers,
