clutch rod seal? internal or external?

so the seal around what i would call the throw out rod on my 81 550 is leaking its the small shaft right in front of the drive shaft the sprocket goes onto its only about 1/4 in diameter my question, is this seal something that can be removed and replaced without having to split my block? because it is such a small leak i probably wouldnt worry about it if it werent for the fact that its covering my rear tire with oil

Yes, you can replace it without too much difficulty. The clutch pushrod itself pulls out though the clutch side of the engine (RH side) so please be aware - seal comes out on LH side though as you might imagine.

There are several thread on this exact topic so you might want to try a search (advance search, using Titles Only) to hone in more on the details.

    Good luck.

Just to help out Cody here because I'm still waiting on some other seals before doing mine as well.

Do you HAVE to remove the pushrod to replace its seal or can you do it all without taking the clutch cover off as well?
