Aftermarket gasket set

I got impatient and bought a gasket set from Bikebusiness on Ebay. All looked good, BUT the seals at the 4 corners of the head gasket are loose in the package. The are held in the original head gasket by small pieces of metal, which are not in this kit. I tried to remove the old tabs, but they broke. Any ideas?

Hi,

You can still buy an OEM gasket set for most GS bikes. Look in the "Options" section of the parts fiche. Yes, OEM are more expensive, but they work.

(I learned this little tidbit from Mr. bwringer. That guy is still teaching me stuff. Thanks Brian!)

Thanks for that info! I have been trying to find a OEM set for my 81 GS650G at BikeBandit, they have it discontinue in the "optional" section. I did find other sellers having it listed. I hope it is still available when I try and order it.

That is what I ran into, a whole lot of not available.
I apologize for not waiting around for the answer, but family called, they come first. I have posted here a few times, and hope to have this bike running by fall. This is my second running resto, I have 3500 miles on the 71 CB350 twin, I drive it to work daily.

That said, I have contacted the supplier, we shall see.
I pulled the motor down due to unknown condition, so far bearings are in tolerance, pistons, rings and valves are looking good.

Sure am sick of lapping 16 valves, but the challenge of building a compressor was fun.
I use this site as a reference religiously.

You can get some good OE gasket deals on ebay if you look. Worth a shot since OE is WAY better than aftermarket when it come to gaskets.

Hi,

Even if you do go with one of those cheap aftermarket gasket sets, try to order the important gaskets from Suzuki, i.e. base gasket and associated O-rings, head gasket, etc. Gaskets for the valve cover, clutch cover, etc, are not as critical.
