    What does part number 17 do?



    17 PAD, RUBBER
    11152-38A00 (replaces 11152-45000) 8

    I don't remember seeing them so I don't know if I'm missing something.

    It was a sound deadener that was left over from Suzuki's 2-stroke days.

      They are rubber pads that go between the fins. From the side of the engine looking at the spark plug and the camshaft cap, you should see a pad there. I believe there are 2 on each side (at least on a GR).

      What they actually do is beyond me......

          I don't think they're necessary.

          It's these rubber pads. You can see them under the oil line and in the background.

            Not necessary at all.
            They were to take some of the "ring ding" noise out of 2-stroke engines.

              Theyn actually do quiet the cam chain rolling noise a bit on the GSs as well..and i prefer them in beteween all the fins. I ( usually ) put them near the backs of the fins so they arent as readily visible from the side of the engine.

                To pass muster at a concours judging you will need to have them in.
                I imagine they lose a lot of their damping ability as they age and harden though.

                Can you even buy new ones?

                  No on the first count Jeepster. They come pretty hard from the factory. They just stop the slight migration of upper end noise thru the fins. And count 2..yes they are still available.

                    I hate that piece. I thought is was junk stuck in the fins. Went to pry it out and it arced gracefully into my chain well.

                    Not magnetic, so I had to use a pair of wooden kebab skewers as chopsticks to fish that f**ker out of there.

                    Only took about an hour.

                        Long needle nosed pliers or hemostats do the job quite well.

                          Suzuki sells them but the latest parts are gray colored, so that's a points reduction.
