Simple...first get yourself a service manual and start reading. Next, use the Advanced Search function here to read as many threads as you can find on how to do it. After you do that, search some more about what gaskets to get, and whether or not you should rehone the cylinder and install new rings. Easy stuff.Ed

Take off the tank, the carbs, the valve cover. Take off the cams and don't drop the cam chain. Unbolt the head. Inspect the valve guides and seals and replace as necessary.
You might as well replace the base gasket because it often gets disturbed and will lose its seal causing an oil leak, unless you are very careful. As long as you've got the jugs off you might as well hone the cylinders and replace the rings.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

why cant you helicoil the spark plug holes with the head in place.

You do NOT need to pull the head to repair spark plug threads. There are tools and methods to avoid chips, and even if a few soft aluminum chips get in the cylinder they won't hurt anything.Ed

My god man you know he will think ill of it.
A proper repair is a proper repair.
Get an insert done. Likely cheaper than a new head gasket and a whole lot less bother.

Honestly here, based on all these questions, maybe you should just take your bike somewhere to have the threads repaired.Ed
