    Daniel being Daniel.

Have to admit that I've felt the same way as him sometimes here on the board. He posted a very informative link that was skipped over.

I've never removed a secondary drive gear but my understanding is after the swingarm is removed you can access the bolts holding the gear to the case. Some people have had to release tension on the case half screws in that area before the gear assembly can be extracted. Overall, not a difficult task other than a fair number of parts need to be removed to gain access.

Everyone has their own way of expressing- don't take it personal. 7981GS had a good link- I missed it and you probably did too with all the info folks were throwing at you. It probably would have got my attention right away if he had said something like "look what happenned to me in May ". Checking the pumpkin was a good place to start - you would have to do it anyway. Sooner or later, you would have moved up the drive train. I've been on here a year, and can tell you that the veterans try hard to give good advice without sarcasm.

I just experienced the same problem with my 1100. Riding slowly through a parking lot and the rear locked up like i had stood on the brake. It was making a metallic scraping noise from behind the motor just before but no booms or death noises.

Be thankful it didn't happen while going any faster than you were. I'd start by draining the rear end and seeing what comes out, if anything. I had the rear end of my 1100 lockup at 60mph when a bearing seized. I was able to rebuild the rear but needed a doctor to rebuild my ankle. Good luck.

Common sense has become so uncommon that I consider it a super power.

Thanks, didn't know if the 850's and 1100's were the same back there. Didn't really want to tear anything apart without having an idea of what's going on inside.

That link didn't work for me...if anyone else has trouble...try this one.
