engaging the1st gear

engaging the1st gear
when i put the bike in 1st gear and the clutch is pulled in its extremly difficult to push. but when its in but when its in neutral its ok. any thoughts? i have an 82 1100 glTags: None

Check your cable, might not be disengaging all the way. (the clutch)
That said, I've found most bikes to be harder to push in gear than in neutral. Not much, but def a lil more resistance. Probably to do with oil between the plates not releasing them when the bike isn't running.

Which is probably the same reason every bike I've ever ridden has a tendency to lurch a bit when put into first when running, even with the clutch pulled all the way in.

I never flip down into 1st with my toe, I always lift my foot up and kick down quickly.
Not sure which technique the Original poster is using?
Some bikes won't "gently" go into 1st, you gotta stomp it a little bit.
And yes most of my bikes Lurch in 1st also.
