    Engine base gasket

The newest acqisition, a '83 GS1100E has a base gasket that is seeping. bike runs fine except for a few drops of oil after an hour ride.

PO advised that the engine was rebuilt so I can assume OEM gaskets may not have been installed.

I don't feel like tearing into the motor so over time, what can I expect if I leave things as-is, specifically:

    - can I expect to see more oil dripping?
    - will any performance issues ensue?

If there will be pending issues, is there an external fix that I can do such as caulking up the area of seepage?

If you have a base gasket leak, I cannot imagine that it would get better. An OEM base gasket is not too expensive ($15-20 on Partshark IIRC), but tearing it down to replace that will almost certainly require you to also replace the head gasket, which is pretty expensive ($100 or so).

You might get away with postponing that until winter, but you're going to need to address those gaskets. Once you're in there, you should go ahead and change out the valve guide oil seals, check and lap the valves/seats, and inspect the rings/pistons. The biggest hassle is tearing it down and rebuilding. So you might as well freshen up that top end to make the best use of the time and gasket expense.

Obvious first step is to torque the head nuts. This is part of the normal maintenance procedure detailed in the Suzuki service manual.

As far as "can I expect to see more oil dripping?". There is no way for us to know, but it's unlikely to get better without some action on your part.
