    82 GS1100L (1074cc)

    Hi

I'm based in Ireland & I've just joined the forum

I've recently bought a GS1100L (1074cc Shaft Drive Custom Style imported from the US)

It turns out that it needs a new Secondary Bevel Gear Assembly. The threaded part of the gear has sheared off at the universal joint flange.

Does anyone know if this part is shared with any other Suzuki model? or if anyone can recommend a salvage yard where i might be able to get a used one (or is it possible to convert to chain drive?)

    Thanks

      Now that's what I call a welcome :-)

Hope you don't mind if i ask you a few questions so i can get started on getting it back on the road. I've tried searching the forum but am probably using the wrong (irish!) terms

There's a lot of up and down movement on whats left of the shaft so I'm assuming that the bearings are shot and will need to be replaced but I'm having trouble removing the parts from the bike.. any tips.. i'm assuming that the difficulty is just that the bike is nearly 30 years old and has never been apart?

There doesn't look like there is enough room to take the unit out of the engine while it is still in the frame.. is this an engine out job?

      Thanks again for the welcome

      Iddy

I can't assist you much at all, but I can say at all costs KEEP THE Shaft drive Chains are noisey and require more maintenance

Quick pic of the beast in question. Standard GS1100L fitted with drag bars and remounted standard tail light/numberplate and rear fender.
