    Another tired starter clutch question...

Just a quick question: Is the starter clutch gear supposed to look like this?

Has a big groove and kind of tapers up to the center. Seems detrimental...

Just wondering if that would account for why my starter clutch keeps whirring instead of cranking the engine. The clutch itself looks alright.

I wonder if the needle bearings in the starter clutch gear are shot? How do the rollers and pins look? Any dents on the backside where the pins reside?

Might be right where the bolts holding the rotor loosened up, rubbing against the gear.

The answer is NO. The starter clutch gear shouldn't look like that. Yes it is detrimental... When replaced with a different starter clutch gear the problem was magically resolved.
Glad to help you out. (Pats self on back)
