    I will check that out.

But you should first work the throttle back and forth and watch the cable near the carbs, make sure there isn't anything hanging.

To be fair, the attitude that you may be sensing from Mr. Steve can save your life. Riding around on a motorcycle that is not properly maintained can kill you. Please fix your bike. Don't ride it until you can afford to fix it properly.

If the carburetors and charging system have not been properly maintained, I would doubt that the brakes, tires, bearings, valves, and other critical components have either. Failures on two wheels can have catastrophic results.

          Thank you for your indulgence,

No "attitude" intended, just stating fact.

No, I don't have "plenty of time and money", either. In fact, I am only at home for a few weeks A YEAR.

It is because I DON'T have time to work on them, I have gotten them to work correctly.

It takes very little money and just a little know-how to fix and adjust the carbs.
Virtually any problem that could happen has already happened and been documented on the forum.
The answers are just a few searches away.

I know your handle is "lovetoride", but with a 30-year-old bike, you're going to have to do some wrenching, too.

Lovetoride, Steve's "opinion" is actually fact as several of us have tried to tell you the same things. I don't know what kind of income you have but trust me, not taking care of your bike will definitely lead you into disaster if you aren't careful.

Don't even take your test tomorrow without first dipping your carbs properly, ensuring all the orings are replaced in the carbs and intake boots, valves are adjusted, and your airbox is properly took care of. Additionally, double check your brakes and make sure they work properly (brake calipers and MC cleaned out and rebuilt as necessary, lines flushed/replaced, etc).

Again, failing to do all of this can mean your life. And before you try again talking about you not being able to do this because of money, there aren't many of us here who are super well off- but we take care of what needs to be done.

The thought of an engine cutting out in a tight turn at low speed should make anyone wary of doing test on a marginal bike.

Mr. lovetoride; you don't want this 60 hp machine to suddenly run away from your ability to control it- being able to hit kill switch is a meager back up plan. The folks here are trying to tell you stuff that just might save your life. Sure it's frustrating to have to do all this maintenance, but it's necessary for your own safety . This bike is NOT ready for the road, let alone any skill testing. The season up here is winding down, so use the time to fix the bike and take the test in March.

Just wanted to thank everyone. Your opinions are very helpful. I took the bike out today for a long ride and it didn't have a problem. It ran good. I also passed my skills test. Just to let you all know over the next few months i will be going over the whole bike and replacing what needs to be replaced.

what did you end up doing to get your bike running well enough to ride?
