I use a thin coat of oil on the bores to keep them from rusting and an even thinner coating on the piston skirts. Pin gets a good slathering but I don't use anything on the rings. If the engine will sit for a long while than some extra oil may be in order but otherwise I go light.Ed
To measure is to know.

Then, you wiped the cylinders down with either 50W motor oil or assembly lube and then installed the pistons with assembly lube/oil on the skirts, right?

When I installed, I wiped the bores clean with paper towels then applied clean oil to both the bores and the pistons. Oiled the pins/rod eyes on installation as well.
