    Choosing the correct chain

    I've got a 1980 GS750 that needs a new chain.

How do I know which one I need? Where's the best place to find one on the cheap?

    Suzuki specs say I need a 630-96. Can I go with a 530?

    Help is appreciated. Thanks!

To expand just a bit on Nessism's correct response:
Your bike came with a 630 chain and sprockets. The 630 chain selections are limited and expensive. You really need to replace both sprockets at the same time.
Therefore, most opt to make the 530 conversion. The chain is smaller and lighter and can be cheaper. Selection is vastly greater than the now defunct 630 chains, and they can be just as strong.
Z1 knows all about this conversion and can point you to the correct length chain and sprocket sizes.
