GS1000G oil leak at clutch shaft?

I now have my slipping clutch fixed. I had noticed a small leak from the seal where the shaft comes through the cover on the right side of the bike, so while doing the clutch spring upgrade, I replaced it along with the gasket for the clutch cover. I used an OEM Suzuki seal.

After a short ride today, I noticed the seal is leaking far worse than before- I had a small stream of oil going down the side cover.

This seems odd due to the low oil pressure of these engines by design as well as the location at the top of the housing for this seal. Is there a good bit of pressure there?

I did a search back through 2008 here and the only similar things I found were on some 450 models, which use a different setup.

Thanks for any advice or tips.

The clutch basket throws a lot of oil around so that's most likely why you are seeing so much oil. Regarding the leak, most likely the seal was damaged during install. My guess is you could replace it without removing the cover if you are careful.

Thanks. I'll pull it out and have a look.

I pulled it using a small flat tip screwdriver & there's a cut in the inner lip, but I may have done that when I pulled it. Need a new one at any rate.

I put the new seal in today and after doing some reading became convinced the issue was I had overfilled the engine with oil at the last oil change (I added more due to the cooler, thermostat, and lines). I sucked about 8 ounces out to put it just below full.

EDIT: As measured while it was on the center stand. I'm new, but not that new.

I'll take a test ride tomorrow and see if it is cured.
