sorry tom... i'm recently married so doubt my wife wants that passed on lol.
both bikes are g's or gl's. they both have drive shafts.

so is there any type of motor that will fit or is it only the 650's?
thinkin it may be time to break down the two motors and see what parts i can combine. really hoped to find somethin i could put in already runnin.

      Sounds like an "L".

Changing the handlebars is a very common change.

I was guess on the length of the mufflers. They are shorter on the 850s, I was assuming that they were also shorter on the 650.
The only 650 I have here is an "L", but has a 4-into-1 pipe on it, so I don't know for sure.

If it is a 650 E chain model you might be able to stick a 550 motor in it but not sure. Someone will chime in and correct me I'm sure

I am not sure but perhaps you could rebuild one of them using a 750 cylinder and pistons?
You would gain about 60-75 cc's in the rebuild.

both have drive shafts. so chain drive bikes are not.... unless i can fit the swing arm from the bike as well.
so will a 550 bolt in or is there any motor that will bolt right in the 650g frame? would the swing arm be close? if it is i can do some frame mods to make it work. i've raked and chopped enough frames i'm not afraid to cut and chop.

as to rebuilding with 750 parts thats putting me back where i am now+a few cc's. i rebuilt the top ends on each motor i have while it was in the bike and eventually pulled the top end off one to put on the other. problem now is the bottom end on both.
so what i have is one complete motor and one bottom end with a box of top end parts. if i'm trying to combine motors i could possibly get one good one but i'm a little over my head when i get into the bottom end of these motors and my bike guru moved. a bolt in solution with minimal modification needed would just be more up my alley.

This link is to a Suzuki parts fishe... http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm

If you look up both a 650G and 550E you will see for yourself that the swingarms are completely different, and the frames are different to accommodate. As already mentioned, there are NO similar engines to the 650G in terms of size and drive configuration.

Of course, if you are cutting and welding anything is possible. But what you ask, a bolt up configuration, does not exist.

A bolt in solution is to find a other 650G/GL motor..
550 is chain drive, so that won't work without a bunch of mods.
750 is chain drive. Same thing there. Or, for about twice what youd pay for a decent shape 650G lump, you could just buy a different GS that's running but needs some work. Think bigger

Amen! Find a good 850 or 1000G and part out both 650's to fund the new bike.

think sentimental value. obviously there is always an option to buy somethin else... which i have.
the bike in question is far from stock frame and all fabricated by hand with VERY basic metal tools and a portable lincoln welder. my first build and i was proud. it got attention from everyone and i rode it for years.
i scrap vehicles all the time but this one i left sit under a tarp safe at my parents house just in case i came across another one. even though i left it sit my brother has been after me to bring it back since it died. finally told him i'ld do the work if he got the parts and he can have it.

guess it's time to hit the yards with a tape measure and an imagination, lol.

Keep your eye on CL -lots of 650's that owners have grown frustrated with; in my small area of S. Maine, there were five last fall with the "just need the carbs tuned" claim. Your area should have similar- get a complete rolling bike and sell off what you don't need.
