As I am new to the whole gs thing, I am a little scared. I have a 82 gs1100g and for some reason it has started making a weird sound kind of like the one in this link on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smCIu7KEESc so if anyone has any info that can help me out it would be much appreciated. All I know as of right now is that it is getting colder now and I have all the time I need to try and fix it. I know its coming from the left side near where the drive shaft is bolted and it only does it while its in gear. I guess first step is to try and remove the drive shaft and go from there hope it isn't broken or worse off a pinion gear is shattered or something expensive like that.

Whats up,

The right angle gears out of transmission run in oil-have you checked this?- then those gears turn a u-joint (under the rubber boot) which drives a propeller shaft which inputs to the pumpkin (also runs in its own oil) . Lots of places that could make noise, especially if PO was negligent. Try to determine which end the noise seems to be coming from. Put on centerstand, in gear (NOT RUNNING) and rotate back wheel back and forth - any unpleasant clunks or play?1981 gs650L

OLDENUFF
Also FYI have a fan running to cool the engine while you have it running and stationary. Doesn't take long to overheat.

check my old posts...
I disassembled my bike for a similar noise.... but yours sounds more "regular".
mine would change sounds when I blipped the throttle.
was the #$%^%@ !!!! clutch basket.
suggest you check the clutch basket. if those little springs on the clutch basket are loose, it will sound like rocks in the tranny.
when i removed my basket, it sounded like a tambourine ! { here: http://s381.photobucket.com/albums/o...t=MOV02922.mp4 }
edit... my old posts are gone ? frustrating !
edit again... found 'em: http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...=gs1000l+noise

(I find it really cool that my camera ignored all the noise except the noises I wanted you guys to hear ! )
