    oil leak for clutch shaft

I'm leaking a bit of oil from the shaft pictured. It's not too bad, but when I put the bike on it's side stand after riding the oil seeps out. I'm sure it's the little gasket, but I'm wondering the best course of action to take to replace the gasket. Can it be replaced without removing the cover? Oil levels are fine. Thanks.

Is it coming from the oil cap maybe? You may just need to replace the oring around it.

The oils coming from the shaft. I was hoping it was only the oil plug gasket, but no. I order the gasket for the shaft, but I'm not sure about how to go about replacing it. Don't know if I need to pull the cover off or not. Guess I'll figure it out when the parts come in. Thanks.

Which bike is this for? Do you have the service manual from Cliff's site yet?

1980 gs850gl. I have a clymer. I haven't seen anything in it about how to go about replacing the gasket. I was hoping to avoid draining the oil, removing the cover, replacing the cover gasket, etc. Thanks.

Replace the seal. You might be able to pull it by shooting some sheet metal screws into the seal and then pulling it out, but be prepared to pull the cover in case it doesn't want to come out once you damage it with the screws.
