Anyone know why the VM-carb bikes use a push/pull (double pull) cable, while the later models don't? I assume safety. Is is still advisable to retain the "push" (throttle closer) cable when using VM carbs?

You are correct - it is a safety thing. I think the thinking was that the mechanically operated slides were more prone to getting stuck than the butterfies. I have run both with and without the return cable on many bikes. I suppose it's up to you whether you take the risk or not but if you do run with no return make sure your kill switch works.Last edited by hampshirehog; 01-20-2012, 02:35 PM.79 GS1000S
