    GS1150 Rebuild

    So I have started my 1986 GS1150 rebuild. Question is I am sourcing the base and head gasket and they are giving two cylinder options. One is 101424 or 101425- where do I find that information? Same with the crankcase 102247- or 102248-?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Base gasket part # 11241-00A02
    Cylinder gasket part # 11141-00A03

    These are the correct part numbers for the 86 1150
    1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
    1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

      I am not sure why they list the different numbers?
      So the engine will consist of 86 cases, 85 cylinders and transmission and 86 head.
      Also is it better to get the oem timing chain as well, I am guessing its continuous?

        Might as well get a HD chain for it while you are in there, cheaper than OEM I believe

            Thanks guys.
            This will be my first complete tear down. I have done new rings and hone in the past.
            A little nervous swapping over transmissions from the 85 cases to the 86 cases. Hopefully I don't screw it up. I do have my shop manual.

              I have split cases 5 times or so. Orginization is key, make sure the crank seal stays straight, as soon as the cases are together, put vice grips on the shift shaft and make sure it shifts before tightening it down. Threebond dries fairly quickly, at least mine does, so it needs to be applied and bolts torqued fairly quickly before it dries too much. Oh ya, it stinks too, it will give you a buzz unless you are well ventilated

                Make sure the shifter forks are in the right slots, the o-ring is in the main oil pickup and the spring is on the shifter drum.

                    I have seen your posts over the years and you are definatly the engine guru.
                    I split the 85 cases over the weekend to start swapping things over to the 86 cases. Reason I am doing this is because the 85 cases have chunks missing where it looks like it was dropped on the ignition cover.
                    Everything inside looks good, gears, crank etc. Looks like it was redone at some time, even has a DID timing chain installed.
                    Have to clean the 86 cases this week.

                    Now to put my parts list together:
                    -new crankshaft seals (oem) should I replace them?
                    -transmission seals (plugs)?
                    -base/head gasket and o-rings (oem)
                    -rings (oem)

                      What are you going to do with the 85 cases? I could use them if you want to do some trading. Ray.

                        I was going to keep them and see if I could get them welded up and refinished. Just wanted to swap them so I can ride the bike for now and also get my head around these engines a little.

                        Does anybody have a source for clear microfiches for the 1150? On the crankcase the lower part is almost unreadable. That is for Cyclepartsnation, Alpha sports, Mr Cycle,Boulevard Suzuki.

                              It looks like the gear/neutral indicator pin that has a spring behind it. Fits on the sprocket side under the cover.
