Another silly question.
Seeing as the bore is 74mm (2.91") will a 3" flex hone be good enough or does it need to be a little bigger to generate more force against the cylinder?
In the past I have used the 3 stone hones but the flex look a little easier to use?
Cheers

Sorry one more, what grit should I get for new rings. looks like the cylinders just need a de-glaze. I have used 320 in the past but i can get a 600 as well, too fine?
Cheers

320 is good. Not sure but I think that 3" hone should be fine. Use lots of oil and wash well afterwards.
The neutral indicator pin is captured by an electrical switch/indicator that bolts to the engine. I'd store that little pin and the spring until you put the engine back into the chassis so they don't get lost.Ed

I see Mcmaster Carr has flex hones, has anybody used them. Also I was reading over the weekend and alot of people are recomending a 240 grit hone saying it is the ideal grit for seating in new rings? I thought I would verify here as you guys know these bikes inside and out.

Went ahead and ordered the 240 grit hone.
I am placing my order for gaskets and when I look up the cylinder base gasket they show o-rings seperate for the studs and the other option show no seperate o-rings. Mine have the seperate o-rings. So my choice is either 11241-00A10 or 11241-00A02? I know Chef said the 11241-00A02 is the right one but two options are offered?
Does 11241-00A02 have the o-rings built into the gasket?
Man this can get confusing.
Cheers

No seperate o-rings on the gasket. There are crush washers built into the MLS gasket.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

So the o-rings are only used if you use 11241-00A10 gasket?
Was this a design change of some kind?

Well bad news, I just honed my cylinders and one has a vertical scratch that you can feel with your nail and one cylinder looks like it had a little rust in it and you can feel that with your nail as well. That was the cylinder with the lowest compression. Both are in the ring travel area.
This sucks, so now I guess its a bore out to oversized rings?
Damm these old bikes get frustrating.
I am glad I haven't ordered my rings yet.

I never was aware of seperate o-rings on the sixteen valve 1100/1150 motor.
Doesn't mean there weren't though.

I don't have alot of money to put into this, was trying to keep it fairly low.
Can you get 1mm oversized rings? plus I have to find a machine shop near me to do the re-bore.
Almost tempted to put my Gsxr1052 lump into it.

Man I don't see rings or pistons of any kind available from Suzuki for the 1150.
Geez
Keep an eye on Ebay for 1150 cylinders and I know rapidray has some.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
