Oil Cooler hook up?

What up gang?

I was looking at some pictures of bike with a oil cooler system. I notice that some of them have oil lines running down to the oil filter cover and some are running to the back of the engine. What's the best way to run the lines, front or back? Thanks for your help.

Oil coolers

I have a related question:

I bought an '82 GS1100G a few years ago, that had a Lockhart oil cooler installed [exactly as on my '82 GS850G that I'd had '82 - '87]. Thinking I'd be riding my '81 GS850G a lot more than the 1100 [it's a good deal more comfortable], I had the oil cooler transferred to the 850. Now I'd like to get an oil cooler for the 1100, but cannot FIND ONE anywhere...????

Any ideas?

The 1100 coolers go to the front galleys that are blocked with 2 large bolts. The 1150's came with a cooler that bolts right up.. I just saw one on ebay last week. You can also run a plumbed cooler that feeds directly in to the oil filter cover. I have one of the plumbed ones in my parts box. i had not planned on selling it, but if you can't find one, let me know.

easiest to do is use the plumbing provided by the manufacturer.....ie ...the ones next to the filter cover. you can buy a complete kit from earls here:

the ones you see plumbed in from the side are usually a gs1000 which doesnt have the galleries next to the cover and therefore use an adapter like so attached to the oil pressure sensor gallery like so:

I've been away from this site for a long time (2009 from memory) but I washed the dust off my GS1000E and did a little work on it lately, and I'm glad to be back.

I'm still making my original cooler adapters and complete cooler kits for GS Suzuki's and I've made quite a few for members here recently, if anyone would like one shoot me a PM. Cheers, Terry. ;D
