Part number 12 are wire mesh screens that go inside the breather cover. Their purpose is to actually collect free sloppig oil and drip it back into the engine and not out the tube...are there screens in yours?

As for the electrical..take off the tank and follow the guage pigtail down to the connector and clean them up..do the same inside the bucket for the headlight..clean and wiggle to be sure all is well connected. You may have some burnt out lights in the guage cluster too, but i doubt all would be out at the same time. Check the plugs and see if you at least egt something working.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Ill have to check the breather cover for the wire mesh things tomorrow... Thanks for the tip! also I want to take my side cover off to clean the oil window.. I think I have too much oil in the engine... Should I be able to see the oil level through the fill cap? Its pretty far down but its way higher than the sight window... All the phillips are stuck on pretty good is there a good way to get them out or is it the pb blaster and hammer and if that does not work dremil a slot?

No you should be able to esily see the oil thru the filler cap...if its that full then thats a hint ( to me ) that maybe the raised level is because the petcock has let fuel seep into the oil. I would smell the oil thru the cap to see if it smells of gas. Get that stuff out of there. Fill it again properly once you can determine the petcock isnt leaking fuel. Running it with gas contaminated opil is a great way to smoke your engine.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I actually replaced the fuel petcock and changed the oil. I could not get the oil drain off because the biggest socket I have is a 17 and I think its a 19, unless im going for the wrong bolt. So I drained the oil by taking off the filter cover and drained it there... I can see it through the filler cap, but its way down there. Its hard for me to estimate it tho. Also I hit my next snag. I was taking it for a test drive yesterday and the clutch cable snapped. Luckily I was in second at the time and home was only 2 short blocks away... Ill have to wait for my next day off to take the cover off and see if it was just the cable or something more, its down inside the panel that covers the chain for sure, but beyond that I wont know for a bit...
