    gs550l cam chain

Just wondering if anyone knows where I can find a cam chain for a 85 gs550l for a reasonable price. So far all I've found are around $110. Looking for something more coat effective. Any info to find one cheaper will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Part Shark has it for $103.44... http://www.partshark.com/fiche_selec...400&x=138&y=12

    Still not cheap.

Those cam chains typically last for the life of the engine - 100,000+ miles. Why do you need/want to change it?

I want to change it because the tensioner is all the way adjusted and there is play in the chain and its making a lot of noise and its also making the bike very hard to start. I already took the tensioner out and made sure it was clean free a d working properly.there's nothing else that could be causing that on these engines is there?

Are you 100% sure the tenssioner is working properly? Ie lock screw isn't slightly too tight and stopping the plunger from extending all the way.

How many miles on the bike ?

You can check with the manual but I think its: over 20 pitch lengths you get 128.9mm (5.07") Any more and its unserviceable.

If the chain is stretched that much It would definitely affect the cam timing.

Ill pull it apart and check again but I'm quite positive its all working as it should. Thanks for that spec. Ill measure that if I find the tensioner to be ok.

Boulevard sells it (OEM) for ~$98. If you can add about $3 worth of stuff you should be eligible for free shipping with that, too (assuming you're in the U.S.). But yeah, I'd be concerned if the cam chain was slack. I'd think that broken/loose guides or a stuck tensioner would be more likely.
