VDO Gauge
Just received my new 15lb VDO oil pressure gauge. Installation was a snap. Looks real good. After warm up the pressure at idle falls to almost zero, at speed it stays a about 6lbs +/-. When cold at idle about 2/4 and at 3000rpm about 6-8. Is this OK? The red light never comes on except when the key is first turned on and goes out at start. JeffTags: None

Hi,
What bike? A '79 GS850G perhaps? If so, this sounds about right. The 8 valve engines use a low pressure oiling system.
Hint: Put your bike in your sig file.
AND you will find a regular GS850G partay over at my little website. Please feel free to stop by and look around. I'm sure it will answer many of your questions.
Thank you for your indulgence,

Mine floats at 3lbs at idle and maybe 6lbs at low throttle.
It'll jump up really high at WOT.
I have a stubborn OilPressure light too.
Actually thats the reason I bought the gauge, to confirm riding pressure.
(I've linked the problem to the homemade oil cooling system, specifically the oil pickup unit, which contains the plunger/spring)
Everything is clean, connections good, but the light persists!

The 650G and GL have high-pressure oil systems.
The 650E is low-pressure.
NOTE: although it's only a 4-valve engine (still two per cylinder, though), the 450 is also a high-pressure engine.
