73,000 miles and what I found
Hello everyone, finally decided to pull the top end from my new to me 78 GS750 2V. It puffed a little smoke but seemed to run real nice with a smooth buttery idle and no major engine noise. Once I got it apart I was amazed how clean the piston domes were. I found one exhaust valve hammmered to crap with multiple splits (radially) and the same cylinder was missing a circlip which allowed the wristpin to score the bore. Now the original owner says no work was ever done on the pistons or valves. I am not sure but I have never seen a circlip go missing on a factory motor.Tags: None

He may have lied but I would think he would say "yeah" I had the rings doen not, "no" never touched it. I think its stock quite honestly. No way of telling other than his word and he about gave me the bike. The post is more about how great these bikes run no matter the mileage and a compression test would have told me the valve was toast.
