Currently broke down on 15 in Ct

I am currently broken down in ct on rt 15.

I was on the highway doing 60 when there was a sudden loss of power. The bike sounds worse and wont hold its idle. I recently replaved valve cover gasket with hightemp gasket sealant because it would leak with out it. Fuel tank and carbs have been cleaned before.

    Any suggestions?

Anyone around here. Basically off of exit 17 from 91 north.

Yes friend is down me. Its all part of the ride

After bike cooled down a bit, it started, held idle and sounded fine. Revved to redline now. Why is this happening on cool down?

According to the GSers map, members frozenfish66 and t-money are in CT; unfortunately it appears they've had no activity for a couple of months. FF66 is also friends with Vtso4, who appears to be a CT resident as well. He visited at least a couple of days ago. FrozenFish66 does have an e-mail address listed. Those are just some contact ideas.

So, you lost all power, then after it cooled off it ran OK, but when it warmed up it revved to redline all its own? Sounds like one of your intake boots might be falling apart. What bike are we talking about?

Check that 1980 petcock (leverless?) make sure it flows gas! make sure gas tank is venting- run with cap loose

Just played around with petcock and seems i found a setting that doesnt make it lose powere. I test ran it a couple miles 65mphdown and didnt lose power.

The air hose for petcock is pulsing. Is that right? Should it be noticable when it pulses to suck in air?

            Thanks

I never noticed the petcock hose pulsing on any bike I've owned, but then, they were usually hidden up under the tank and either worked or didn't, so I never really messed with them. If in doubt, run it in prime and bypass the vacuum petcock completely. Don't dismiss the possibility of a bad coil breaking down when it gets hot. Than can drop out two cylinders instantly.

Say what? isn't your vacuum hose connected to petcock? if you disconnected it to inspect it, with engine running, yes it will pulsate -every other rev (when #2 is on its intake stroke). Don't leave it open, reconnect or plug it.

It may also be rust inside the float bowls... Getting suched into the main jet(s)... Then when engine stops the rust falls out again...
Or the filter bowls inside the carbs...

                  Just a thought.

                  Hope.it stays sorted for you.

Are you running a filter on the fuel line?

I made it out to Auburn, Mass (near Worcester). Bike ran great until then and crapped out like before. We found a cheap hotel and I had progressive tow for free to a motorcycle shop that opens tomorrow. I guess i will find out tmrw if I continue or not.

Thanks for the help guys. I do have a filter on fuel line and the petcock is on prime. The 2there cylcinders dropping out spunds like it makes the most sense. I replace both ignitio coils this past fall!!!

Not sure why you would head out even further on a bike that's running sketchy?? Symptoms sound like a clogged fuel filter or a bad petcock.

Ditch the inline filter and get a new petcock, yours is probably now oozing fuel down vac line and fouling #2 spark plug. Make sure you understand how this marvelous petcock works .

Mechanic saw it this morning and changed out a spark plug cap. Ran for about 100four miles then it happened again. Could be the signal generator, idk. This trip is done. Time to get it back to Brooklyn.
