Noob cylinder swap question - 750 to 850

I've got an 82 750T, thinking about cheap power upgrades. I've done a forum search here which says you can swap for an 850 cylinder. However, I've never done anything like that before. Is it as simple as a new cylinder block and larger rings? Or do I need to change anything else, rejet carbs, etc? Anyone have a write-up they could point me to?

The swap is for the first generation 8 valve 750 engine. Your bike has the second generation 16 valve engine so you can't do it. You can stuff an 1100 engine into your chassis though - called a 7-11 swap. The engine mounts line up, other than the one on the bottom of the engine which is not critical.

Dang. Ok, thanks for the info. Unfortunately you can't get an 1100 engine for about $40-50 on ebay.

Don't feel too bad, you can't find the 850 pistons in those eBay listings either. New pistons and rings for the 850 total about $400.

Would any year 1100 engine work? Saw one on CL about 50 miles away from 1980. Would my transmission work or do I need that too?

It needs to be an 1100E model, the chain drive engine, which was made 1980-1984. Most 1100 engines similar to what you may be looking at are the G or GL models, the shafties, which will not work. Do you have a link or some pics to share so we can verify for you?

The pic he sent just shows the heads, will investigate.

The transmission is part of the engine. I don't understand the question.

Sorry, meant clutch/clutch plates, not transmission.

What's a reasonable price for a GS1100 motor in pieces? Assuming all the pieces are in ok shape?
