82 1100L backfire (#4 cyl)
I have a backfire on the #4 cyl. I know its #4 cuz 10sec on a cold start the pipe is still cold. I can tell its a lean since it runs fine w/ the choke, and the plug is white and dry. It seems to only be above 1/4 throttle (2k rpm). I cleaned the carbs, but I'm going to clean them again. I've also checked the spark and its just as strong as #3. I did a compression test and all 4 are @ 150. I sprayed carb cleaner around the intake and air box boots but noticed no change. Still I proceeded to remove the intake boots, the o-rings where intact but somewhat hard. The boots themselves are still plyable, however, the boot clamps bottom out b4 they get tight on the boot. I tighten them and I can spin them. With no sign of a vacuum leak I dont think I should worry as it takes alot of force to remove and install the carbs. The bike only has 14k. (Please excuse the run on paragraph. I'm using my PS3 and for whatever reason it wont let me shift "line break".) Thanks for any help or ideas guys .Tags: None

Welcome to the forum. I also have an 82 1100L.
I see you said you have cleaned the carbs but did you completely disassemble the rack and soak each carb body in parts cleaner? Replace all the o-rings and verify that the jets were not plugged? Also the valve clearances will need to be checked and adjusted if needed.
If Basscliff hasn't stopped by in any of your posts yet he will soon and he will provide a link to his web page. Lots of info and tutorials there to get your bike running like a top.
