    Engine identification

So I have owned a gs550e for a few years now and picked up a second project bike. I purchased a 79 gs750 with a gs1100 engine swap. The problem I am having is I diagnosed a crapped out stator for the charging problem, and I'm not sure what the year of the engine is. Is there a way I can identify the year of the engine by marks?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Not sure about the marks, but all the 1100's used the same stator if that helps.

Edit: apparently I was wrong with above comment. The early bikes use one stator, then in 1983 it changed. Wonder if this has anything to do with changes to the larger crank end?

You might have to pull the stator cover and see what'd there to be sure which type you need.

That helps quite a bit, was there any major differances in them?

See my edited comment above. They are not all the same. Sorry for the bad info.
