How many hours to rebuild 550?

I'm considering having my GS550 engine rebuilt and was curious about the amount of billable hours I should expect to be quoted. Also are there any forum members that rebuild these things?

What is it about your engine that requires a rebuild? Anything specific or is it just in generally poor repair at the moment?

The number of hours would depend on the extent of the rebuild.

Are you looking for a top-end rebuild, which would include new rings, honing the cylinders, cleaning up the valves, checking/replacing the valve guides and new valve seals, along with all the required gaskets.

A complete lower-end rebuild would probably include all the seals in the transmission, checking transmission gears and forks, checking/replacing clutch disks, etc., along with the complete top-end job.

Unless somebody has really thrashed the engine, you might only need a top-end job, which you can easily do yourself.

As BigD asked, though, what makes you think it needs to be rebuilt?

Defiantly more billable hours than the bikes worth with what shops are charging these days.
1 Why do you think it needs a rebuild? generally unless seriously neglected these will go 50K plus with minor maintance.
2 If it really does need a rebuild do ir yourself it isn't that hard it only has 4 pistons how hard can it be.Plus you'll be happier with it and have lots more money in your pocket
