GS1100GL rear diff noise
ok guys i got a 82 gs1100gl and it seems to have a loud rear diff noise on deccel but if just riding its not loud so first thing i did when i got it was drop the fluid and filled it up but its still loud any ideas?? tear it down or order a new/used one ? thanksTags: None

That final drive unit was a common part on all the 850's, 1000G's and 1100G's, although the 1983 1100 unit has a taller gear ratio (a nice unit to target). You can get good used units off ebay for about $50 shipped. It's not worth your time and money to crack it open.

Are you sure its the rearend ...?.. The 1100 shaft motor was having the nut at the output flange pop off in the early 80's model ...Pull the boot back at the motor to the swingarm ... Get your fingers in there and see if the flange to the drive shaft is loose ...

+1 also if it is the problem check on BaseCliff's site for the fix...
