    Tach cable weeping oil

Got the '82 GK running pretty well. Still working on the paint & aesthetics of the bike. However, I have been seeing oil weeping out of the tach cable about an inch or so from the head.

Is that a bad tach drive seal, or just some residual oil from when this bike spewed oil from it's pores & a very bad cam cover gasket?!

I'd expect a bad tach drive seal to leak more & to show right where the cable screws to it.

probably the seal gone and running down the cable a bit before it drips.
disconnect the cable from the head, give it all a good clean up around the tach drive and then start the bike up. you will see where the leak is coming from

Could also be where the seal runs on the tacho drive it's pitted, if so you can whip it out and spin it up on a drill and clean it up with some emry.

Don't say can't, as anything is possible with time and effort, but, if you don't have time things get tougher and require more effort.

Or it could be the oil is leaking at the crimp connection where the cable meets the cable end. In which case you'd have to replace the cable.

It's a known issue. The seals are sold as a replacement part. Make sure to examine the gear and make sure it's not pitted where it contacts the seal.

There's a few oil seals in the tach cable attachment to the engine.
            Very confusing fiche though.
            Items 22 & 23 are seals,
20 & 21, although they look different like different driven gears they still have the same part number, I guess I would have to have that particular bike to discern what I got and what I need.

There are two types of gear housings but both use the same seals. Order 22 & 23 and you are good to go.
