However when I stopped at a light, there was a loud rattling coming from the left side of the head. I hoped maybe I left a spark plug loose or the exhuast was leaking but no it was inside the valve cover. So I pulled the cover off to check clearances which were a litttle tight/loose. I noticed the exhuast bearings on #1 had loose bolts and #2 bearing cap was just rattling loosly. I grabbed the loosest bolt and half of it came out. I attempted to tighten another bolt and it felt like it stripped. When i unscrewed the "stripped" one it looked twisted and I wasg lucky it all came out because it fell apart in my hand. So I went though the trouble of getting an extractor and a proper bit. This is when my luck changed for the better. The broken piece was loose enough to spin out with a pick. I cleaned the threads replaced the bolts and checked them all for proper torque. Only the 1 & 2 exhaust were like that. re checked thevalve clearances. Only thing is I reused the valve cover gasket for the third time. I cleaned it and put a thin swath of permatex and its oil tight. I will be ordering a new on for next time its just that I was in a location where I had to fix it or be stranded. (work). Thats something I will bechecking torque on every time I check the valves.

I just recently installed v&h exhuast on my 1100, and was enjoying the better power in all ranges and the benefit of the weight loss running the lighter exhuast.

Did you have the proper bolts with a "9" imprinted on them? Those are heat treated, similar to SAE grade 8.Ed
To measure is to know.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

I did get grade 8 bolts that fit. But i would like to put the genuine ones in next valve adj.
I was wondering about lock tite, again ill use it next valve adj.
As far as it being monkeyd with, it has 27000 miles on it and when i got it it was in pretty rough condition so who knows what the po might have done. Ill be rechecking the bolts from now on.
