    Degree in those cams!

    I bought a set of 1150 cams from mxm64. I run with Webcam .340 cams but ruined the exhaust cam with lack of oil. I've been running a stock exhaust cam that I just centered the adjustable cam sprocket on it. I also installed an overhead oiler on the exhaust cam and it is now getting soaked with oil.
    The bike ran great with the .340 cams that were degreed in 108/108 or so I thought. It also ran good with the stock exhaust cam.
    Turns out the .340 intake cam was set at 112.5 degrees.
    I set the .340 intake cam at 107 and the 1150 exhaust cam at 108.
    This is by far the strongest motor I have ever owned.
    What a difference! Broke the rear tire loose and was pulling the front wheel up at will.
    Now I can't get a ticket!

    Torque sure is fun... I ruined a set of Andrews 3x cam due to not enough oil up top... oiler should be mandatory on anything but stock...

      never used an oiler...never hurt a set of cams.
      to much seat pressure will kill cams FAST on a rocker engine.
      but..
      never used cams larger than .370 lift.

        Sounds like you've found a pretty useful combination there Bill.

        The 1150 cams had a Yoshi grind, so I'm not surprised that your mix/match has had good results. Just need to make sure of valve to piston clearances when doing that. Not sure of the lift on the stock 1150 exhaust cams but probably less than your Webcam .340

        You have put a very good case for not assuming that standard cams are degreed correctly too.

        Blower is right, many tuners use larger valve spring pressures than needed. They rob some power, and overload the contact areas accordingly.

            When I roadraced my GS1100, I also worked in dealership. Was told by the District Service Manager that 4v GS750 oil pump gears doubled the oil pressure. Also used 4v camshafts. He claimed more h.p. Ran the bike for years, Including 3, 5 hour endurance races on a stock motor. Never a top end failure. Any insite on oil pump gears?

              I have a G7 and G9 in my GS1150 .410/.380 set at 110/113 l/c and no topend oiler have not munched a rocker yet. just use as little seat pressure as possiable
