has the bike been sitting for a long time or did the clutch work good before you replaced the cable?
Again, HOW MUCH FREEPLAY is at the lever?? like Nessism asked?

Very little freeplay at the lever. Clutch worked before I replaced the cable but the bike has been sitting for about a year. The engine had been removed from the frame but the case has not been opened.

It's normal for there to be some drag on an engine that has sat for a while as bikebarntom alludes. Running the bike for a tank full may help free it up some. Failing that, the clutch plates may be warped. You will have to crack open the engine and take a look to judge that.Ed

Awesome guys, thanks for the info. I'll be getting it running in a few weeks and see what happens. Meanwhile I have the Scrambler to ride in this cool northwest USA weather. Thanks for the assistance.
