    82 1100 g/k questions

    Bike seems to be well maintained.
    I am inquiring of the drivetrain. my utmost concern for safety.
    Is it normal for a shaft to have some whine when letting off the throttle?
    I drained and changed all fluids. oils were clean in the primary and secondary, engine oil dark.
    After changing engine oil at low rpm I here a weird noise from the bottom of the engine, thinking starter clutch as it made a funny noise when starting it tonight.
    I plan on taking everything apart, maybe backlash has to be adjusted as it has 40k on it. and check that ring thing in the rear wheel I have seen pics of. IDK
    Other than that with these fat loud exhaust pipes I am going to check it has larger jets to compensate. Maybe even dyno needles. it is an aftermarket, no crossover pipe.
    And of course the valve shim clearances due to mileage even tho it runs great and warms up quick, I want to know all these thing for sure myself. I like my vehicles tip top and perfect as I can get them.
    What concerns me the most is the whining I hear on deceleration. as I have never owned a shafty before but I am loving the smoothness of this bike and the already installed progressives in the rear.
    I get handlebar wobble at 30 mph so maybe head bearings are in order also? may as well do wheel bearings too eh?

    Yes pull your rear wheel and check the spline in the wheel. Being an 82 it probably still has the soft gold one it it. There is a new Black one listed on e-bay right now for 59. bucks well worth getting. Get some Honda moly 60 grease and lube it up before reassembly.

    If it isn't going to make it faster or safer it isn't worth doing

        I'm looking for the 59. dollar one but here is a 99. one I'll keep looking;

        Well not having very good luck unless some one already grabbed it. It was a good deal . I would have bought it but I already have a couple spares.If you want to keep looking I see it tonight and I was looking at GS1000 parts when I ran across it.

              Don't know about Suzukis yet as my GS1000G is still in pieces, but my GL1000 makes no noise on the overrun. I would expect the same from the Suzuki. My guess would be ring and pinion clearance is not setup correctly causing the noise. If your splines look good that would be where I would look. Rear drive boxes are cheap on Ebay, just replace it.

                sounds more like transmission are is where the noise comes from.40k on it I bet it has never been reshimed, kinda scared about getting into this
