Clutch cover does not sit right anymore

So when i bought my 85 GS700ES about three years ago it had a very slippy clutch. I replaced the friction plates and springs with aftermarket barnet components. both the friction plates and springs were outside of service specs. when I put everything back together the cover on the left side of the engine (as you sit on the bike) no longer fits flush with the engine. I would say 3-4 mil off. the number of plates that went in was the same as the number i took out. Any idea what went wrong here?

so you mean the sprocket cover then? it sound like you haven't got the clutch actuator mechanism lined up right in behind the cover. can you take some pics with the cover off?

Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!
