    What's missing from this picture?

So yesterday I decided to replace my clutch pushrod as it was bent and causing an oil leak by pulling the seal apart. I took off the right side of the case and removed the clutch, pushrod, and replaced....etc.

I also took a picture of the side with my phone. Later on when I looked at the picture, I noticed a large hole with three holes for bolts around it. I am a noob here and I'm wondering...is something supposed to be here that is not? I was thinking maybe oil pump or something but I am not sure. Anybody have any ideas?

i dont know what bike you have but that hole would surely be for a kickstart assembly. if it isn't there then you have the option of fitting a kickstart if required.

Ah yes, that would make sense.

And my apologies I have a 1982 GS550L...and there is no kickstart

Yup...the cases were made with the kicker spot..whether it was an option or not. Theres nothing wrong with just leaving it as is. The oil pump is directly behind the clutch assembly and is driven off a linkage pin that interfaces with the back of the basket and the pump itself.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.
