star looking object on right handle bar???!

Back again with crazy questions.. So im working on my gs850 glz 1982.
Its taking me a while to get her going, since im learning as i go.
Im still in the carb dipping process.
but while i wait to dip all carbs. I'm jumping on to other forums ;clutch, brakes, valves adjustment. Which im more than sure it needs all this done and more.
Questions of the day, theres a star looking thing on the right handle bar. It fell of when i was parking the bike.
There's a spring attached to this that was screwed near the throttle.
My question is what the heck is it for???
And could i have damaged the throttle by trying to insert this faulty screw in.
I ask because when i turn the throttle it doesn't jump back to place.
i will post a pick up

Looks like some kind of after market throttle lock . Nothing I've ever seen before. and not OEM equipment.

Agree with Hjfisk. Pretty sure that is a throttle friction lock, sort of a poor man's cruise control. It will hold the throttle in a fixed position. My old Harley sportster has one and it is OEM on that bike, but not a Suzuki.

hjfisk mention it looks like some type of throttle lock. Im just wondering if anyone ever seen this??
Ill post a picture of were it fell from.
After placing back on the bike, and falling out again.. the throttle does not return to its place when reved on. Anyone with advice would be appreciated as im learning as I go. Ty

That part is nothing that comes on a stock Suzuki, nor is that hole in the throttle case.

Open the switch/throttle assy - a couple of screws on the backside will do it... I'm guessing there's a piece on the inside that mates with that screw & it's rattling around in here. Fish it out and all should be well.

Clean where the throttle tube slides over the bar end, a little teflon spray in that area will give it some spring back.

The return force of the throttle comes from the springs on the butterfly valves on the carbs. If your throttle isn't snapping back to place after messing with the throttle housing or tube, something is likely hung up in there.

                      carbs are off

I think he said his carbs are being dunked and cleaned, therefore no throttle return at this time.
