    81 GS750L engie help

    hello all,

I am in the process of rebuilding an 81 GS750L and was seriously thinking about doing cracking open the case for a full engine rebuild. Nothing to radical, just want to freshen everything up and maybe throw some go fast goodies at the bike. However, with the engine I can't find anyone that makes internals. I want to get an idea just incase something is trashed inside. I can't even find a set of piston rings. Does anyone have suggestions?

    First, welcome to the GSR.
    Second, let's clarify some terminology.
What you want to do is called a top end rebuild.
That involves removing the valve cover, the cams, the cam chain tensioner, the head (and the exhaust to do that) and the cylinder block.
This exposes everything you need to work on.

Now, the engine is the same as an 81 GS750E or T. All parts will fit. The reason your bike is not listed is because it is rare but the same engine as all the other 750s of the same year.

Be sure and do lots of studying prior to this project. It is easy to do correctly, but even easier to do incorrectly, which becomes much more expensive.
