blue/white smoke out of exhaust

OK, I am a bit puzzled and a bit concerned.....

Sunday I changed the oil in the bike, and the oil filter as well....

Some dripped onto the wrapped header and is now smoking like a SOB, but that is not my concern, what is my concern is the blue and white smoke now coming out of the exhaust pipe, mostly on initial start up, goes away but not fully after a good warm up, revving the engine will produce more of the smoke until warmed up,,,, but I think I need to be concerned and I think I need to do something but what ? new rings ? do I need to pull the whole engine out to do this ?

This engine has never been pulled apart, it has had small leaks, but nothing major, and now I am seeing more and more oil weeping near the top left portion of the engine at the top cooling fin.

Am I in for an engine rebuild this winter ? Ohhhhh I hope not...

Anyone close by that wants to do it, on the cheap, I don't know if I have the energy, time or willingness, I am trying to get my Yamaha completed, I really don't want another project...

And should I stop riding the bike, before I cause major damage...

Did all the smoking from the exhaust just happen after the oil change? If so did you change the type of oil or brand of filter?

It's now more predominant than what it was before, had a slight hint of this prior to the oil change.

Oil is different from before, filter is somewhat the same very similar, different manufacturer.

I don't believe so, followed the manual, if I remember correctly it was 3.8 liters if the oil filter is changed, I will have to check the sight glass to confirm, I thought it was on the mark, bike was level on car jack stands on the swing arm.

I was thinking maybe some chep oil had caused a lot of sludge to build up, the new better oil might remove some from the rings or valve stem seals or something, might let it smoke a little more. That's not it, Castrol is good.

no sludge came out, the old oil was black but nice, flowed out really nice, no clumps or anything, I even left it to drain overnight....

According to the manual

oil change 3.2L or 3.38Qt
filter change 3.8L or 4.02Qt
overhaul engine 4.0L or 4.23Qt

I just went out and checked, and putting the bike level I see the oil at the top of the sight glass....

Hmmm I guess there is too much oil possibly.....

I will extract some and see if it cuts down the smoke.....

Perhaps I did not wait long enough after shutting down and checking the level, but I did measure the amount I put in, so the manual is wrong ?

Usually all of the oil doesn't come out, but I wouldn't think just a little bit too much would make it smoke.
Can't hurt to let some out I guess.

I will drain some out, and see, it's not like I put in a whole liter more, maybe a half cup if that more, but that would be about it....

I will see if I can get it out tonight, and see how it starts up in the morning...

OK, I drained out some of the oil, about a half cup or so, I will see in the morning on how she runs, and at lunch, and after work.....

I did manage to break my mirror in the process, as I was wiping up the floor of any oil drips to make sure I have no leak by morning, as I was straightening up my shoulder hit the left hand mirror with enough force it broke the plastic cup that more or less holds the bloody thing in place so it don't swivel around, now I need new mirrors....

A guy just sometimes can't catch a break....

Measure the oil level per instructions from the Factory Suzuki Service Manual. You should not just randomly remove oil because you think it may be over filled. To measure is to know.

Most likely the engine needs a freshening. Valve stem seals often dry out and leak after 30 years. Could be rings too, but that's more high mileage related.
