gas gauge float sticking.

    gas gauge float sticking.

    Ok so my gas gauge never worked right. Yesterday I took off the tank and messed with the float as it was sticking on E. Put her back together and it worked great. This morning its stuck at E again. Any suggestions? On a side note I can hook the wires backwards and it stays full all the time I can ride forever. That is how that works right? Lol

    Take the tank off and listen thru the filler hole to hear which side its rubbing on..and you can tell by the sound.

    Next remove it again and bend it the way it needs to go. Reinstall and turn the tank a few times till all you hear is the arm hitting the stops on the housing.

    I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

      I never could get it completely out. No matter how I turned it it wouldn't come through the hole. I had assumed that it had been installed wrong and was stuck against the side causing the float to stick but obviously not the case.

        It can only go in one way. Otherwise the arm wont go ion to the tank at all.

        Take it out straight back and with a turning motion outward as it comes out the hole. the housing will snag a bit on the gasket but just wiggle it past that..no harm no foul.

        May as well calibrate it while your at it so you have a reasonable assurity as to what ts reading.
